Description

Efficient energy management is a critical concern in renewable energy systems, emphasizing the need for innovative approaches to enhance performance and sustainability. This paper aims to optimize energy management by integrating Compound Parabolic Concentrators (CPC) with sensible heat storage (SHS) for low- and high-temperature applications. Building on previously published research that established the effectiveness of CPCs and SHS, the study reviews recent advancements in insulation technologies designed to improve heat transfer in solar thermal systems, identifying gaps and opportunities for further exploration. The research includes both field and laboratory tests, with field tests evaluating a CPC coupled with a cylindrical aluminum storage unit directly heated by sunlight, successfully boiling 2 liters of water. In parallel, laboratory tests using a similarly sized, electrically preheated iron cylinder demonstrated the system’s capability by cooking 1 kilogram of dry beans. The findings indicate that integrating CPCs with SHS significantly enhances system effectiveness, scalability and sustainability, while also highlighting the importance of exploring innovative insulation solutions for future research and applications in solar thermal systems.
